CEREC Restorations

Are you in need of an immediate dental restoration? Waiting for a couple weeks while wearing a temporary restoration may be the traditional method, but why wait when you can get your restorations right then and there? Hatch Family Dentistry makes this possible with the help of CEREC technology.

What is CEREC?

CEREC stands for “Chairside Economical Restorations of Esthetic Ceramic.” It was developed more than 30 years ago to provide a more instant solution for dental restorations which usually take several weeks to be fabricated in dental laboratories.

CEREC was developed in 1987 by Sirona Dental Technologies, a worldwide manufacturer of innovative dental solutions. They are also the manufacturers and distributors of automated dental tools. In fact, they invented the very first electric dental drill in 1887.

The CEREC system is a computerized apparatus that digitally creates the restoration using a photograph of the patient’s damaged tooth. This restoration is then created on the spot using a milling unit which drills and sculpts tooth-colored ceramic blocks.

What Restorations are Available on CEREC?

Using CEREC technology, we at Hatch Family Dentistry are able to produce same-day restorations in the form of:

  • Dental Veneers. These are shell-like restorations that cover the front surface of the tooth, giving an aesthetically pleasing finish.
  • Dental Crowns. Designed for full coverage, crowns are ideally used to restore teeth that have undergone extensive treatment or damage.
  • Dental fillings. Fillings are used to cover up holes where cavities once were. After cleaning and disinfecting the cavities, fillings will be installed to restore the shape and structure of the tooth.

Benefits of CEREC Restoration Technology

CEREC in Tempe AZ

With CEREC technology, patients are able to enjoy the following benefits:

  1. Less hassle and waiting time. You don’t need to make multiple visits to our dental office. With CEREC, you get your restorations on the same day. You can save time and energy throughout the entire process.
  2. Instant solutions to emergency dental problems. Some dental problems require immediate restorations such as deeply fractured or injured teeth. Using CEREC eliminates the need for temporary restorations. You get the permanent restoration right on your first visit.
  3. Perfect fit. Since CEREC produces digitally developed restorations, every edge and curve of your tooth is perfectly visualized, resulting in the most optimal fit.
  4. Long-lasting results. The ceramic blocks used by CEREC are also similar to the materials used for traditional restorations. They have similar strengths and durability, providing many years of tooth protection.
  5. Continuous innovation. Because CEREC is a computerized system, it is continuously improved. You can expect new features to be released in the coming years, making CEREC a more competent, efficient and effective solution for dental restorations.
  6. Flexible materials. Ceramic isn’t the only material compatible with CEREC systems. Sirona Dental Technologies have also developed composite materials such as silicate, plastics, oxides, and alloys to meet the dental, aesthetic, and medical needs of every patient.
